Seven Advent Chorale Improvisations in the Baroque Style (Organ Solo) by Vidas Pinkevicius
This Advent chorale prelude collection brings together seven original chorale-based organ works improvised in 2004 and rooted in the rich traditions of Baroque improvisation. Inspired by the contrapuntal language of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, these pieces offer a blend of liturgical clarity and artistic depth.
Five settings are written in trio texture, ideal for manuals and pedal, showcasing elegant voice leading and flowing imitation. Two chorales—"Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing" and "Son of God, Eternal Savior"—are composed as quartets, providing a fuller contrapuntal structure reminiscent of four-voice chorale fantasias.
Included Chorale Tunes:
Come, Thou Precious Ransom, Come (trio)
Hail to the Lord's Anointed (trio)
Hark! A Thrilling Voice is Sounding (trio)
Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing (quartet)
O Lord, How Shall I Meet You (trio)
On Jordan's Banks the Baptist's Cry (trio)
Son of God, Eternal Savior (quartet)
These pieces are ideal for intermediate to advanced organists seeking to enrich their repertoire with historically informed, stylistically authentic works that remain fresh and engaging for worship or recital.
